Beneficials of Expert System in Health Sector Essays
Beneficials of Expert System in Health Sector Essays Beneficials of Expert System in Health Sector Paper Beneficials of Expert System in Health Sector Paper A case referring to the beneficial use of the expert systems in the health sector was the attempt of the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake city,Utah to build ââ¬Å" the most complex artificial intelligence system ever createdâ⬠according to the words of DR David Classen. Its name was AIC or ââ¬Å"Antibiotic Computer Consultantâ⬠and it was part of HELP(Health Evaluation through Logical Processing), which was LDSââ¬â¢s hospital information system. The latter was existed, before the implementation of the Expert System. The role of AIC was to help doctors determine proper antibiotic treatment for specific patients. Achieving the specific purpose, the Expert System followed the above stages: 1) The doctor turned to the system with information on the infection type and site, and also identified the patient to the computer. 2) The system determined the pathogens, which are likely to have caused the infection. 3) The software examined the patientââ¬â¢s medical records( through the HELP information system) and searched for similar cases nationwide. 4) Finally, it displayed the five most likely antibiotic regimens to be effective and the cost of the prescription for each one. Altough, the system was extremely rewarding and expanded to include other cases involving antibiotics, some criticisms were made against it. It was stated that the system was unwieldy and that physicians had to enter much information, which was useless. Of course, the best answer came straightly from the physicians, who highlighted many important benefits of the AIC. The 88% of them believed that the use of AIC was very simple and they would recommend it to other colleagues. Another 85% stated that the program improved their selection of antibiotics, and 81% agreed that it enhanced patient care. Concerning its usability, doctors access into the system 3 times a day. Eventually, regarding AICââ¬â¢s efficacy, a study in the medical journal Archives of Internal Medicine suggested that doctors selected the best treatment in 775 of the cases, but the computer achieved a 94% correct rating. Therefore, the AIC supported the judgement of the doctors with useful additional information, so as to be able to take better and faster decisions.

Playmobil Toysââ¬the Secret to the Years of Toy Craze Essay
A little over a century ago, you wouldnââ¬â¢t believe that Playmobil, one of the most loved toy companies, started out as a lock and fitting company originally called Metallwarenfabrik. It was founded by Andreas Brandstatter, a locksmith in Zindorf, Germany. It had a few years of great track record and was not only manufacturing locks, they were even manufacturing cash registers, telephones and other various sheet metal products coincidentally to be used for toy establishments. In the 1950s, the current owner of the company, Horst Branstatter shifted the company into plastic manufacturing and joined in on the Hula Hoop Craze, which is incidentally the start of an international craze for Playmobil Toys. But one question comes to mind, why do kids and parents go crazy for these Toys? For one, the companyââ¬â¢s ideal for toys stem from its roots of lock and metal fittingââ¬âcollecting all the right pieces and fitting them together to complete a set. Its collectability is one of its greatest marketing strategy. Same for the kids, it is a matter of pride once you manage to complete a set. Typically, most toy sets would have one center piece for the set and have multiple accessories. Each and every piece would have its individual uniqueness. The fun of having a toy is being able to divulge into a world of imagination using it as a medium. A single piece has complete functionality to fulfil its role on the setââ¬â¢s storyline, having functioning parts that can interact with its fellow toy pieces. This allows children of all ages to use their imagination to its full extent, giving never-ending fun on the part of the kids and a satisfied smile on their parentsââ¬â¢ lips.

Now this is not to say that the common person is not an integral part to big data. Explorys search-e ngine is just one small tool in the large market of big data. Explorysââ¬â¢ new big data search-engine will not come without hurdles. One being, how Explorys can handle so much data and able to keep it safe? Do they have the proper servers and the security needed? Explory seems to have both! It is not well known to most, but Explorys was bought by IBM. IBM has more than enough servers and security to protect and manage the amount of data. Given IBMââ¬â¢s status within the technology field, it seems that they will be able to take Explorysââ¬â¢ search-engine to new heights that could not have been met just under their own workforce. Since the newly owned Explorys is still so relatively new, there still hasnââ¬â¢t been much information released on what results have been reached or if any! With such a large program containing so much data, it is bound to have bugs that will need to be tended too! However, with a company such as IBM they have the infrastructure and work-forc e to fix any presented issues.
